Ryoko Yanagi

Ryoko Yanagi

The more this girl spoke the more Ryoko’s opinion began to change, ‘Damn, she really needs to relax.’ she thought as Hitomi criticized Seigi, ‘I mean she’s right but geez.’ Ryoko’s eyes widened slightly as the girl mentioned being held hostage, ‘And now I feel bad.’ The white haired girl wasn’t completely ignorant and understood that her life at home was a lot luckier than most, it wasn’t something she talked about or tried to make light of.

Kohaku on the other hand had his attention recaptured by the face Seigi was making, the child giggled and lunged out of Ryoko’s arms. The girl let out a startled sound as she leaned her weight forward, it seemed like this was something that happened often, Ryoko bent forward to place her brother on the ground. It wasn’t that she trusted the two but that she felt confident enough that if something were to happen she would be able to get Kohaku away. Maybe that was a bit of ego on her part though. The small child waddled to as he laughed Seigi and patted his own face a few times apparently this was a game.

Ryoko continued her conversation with Hitomi, keeping her brother in her sight, she locked her fingers behind her neck and stretched slightly. “Ugh, I can already see you becoming a pain in my butt, I can’t have you being better than me.” she joked. Actually, she was a bit serious, Hitomi was rather interesting, if anything they were probably on the same level when it came to chakra control. “What are you aiming for?”, Ryoko questioned with a tilt of her head, she didn’t have a goal herself but it seemed like she’d have to keep an eye out for this one.

She took a moment looking at the two and listening to her speak. "Relaxing isn't gonna help anything..."  She looked at the girl's expression when she mentioned her hostage situation when she was younger. That day still haunts her, not to mention how much it hurt deep down. "Don't feel bad, make it your initiative to never have that happen to you or him. I was careless..."

She looked to Ryoko in a serious manner she didn't care for being a pain or being better. "I aim to protect my family, this isn't a race or competition on who's better than who...I'll keep my family safe if it's the last breath I'll take, and I'll go as far as I need to just for them." She looked to Ryoko's little brother playing around. She was quiet for a while before speaking once more. "Listen, having fun and all is nice for the innocent. But we're genin...we are formal shinobi and thus we need to protect. That is why we do this, not to be cool, not to be famous, just for protection."

She looked to Seigi and Ryoko, she was shorter than them and childish in all appearances yet she acted like an adult. It must be so odd to see this from their view but it had to be done. "Don't wait until you almost lose something...protect it with everything you have cause even your own blood can turn on you if you don't do something about it." She was speaking from experience. The kidnapper she had spoken of was one of her family. How awful it felt to know that, to feel it. Your own flesh and blood going against you. When all you did was love them and care for them.

"I disagree with you." Seigi piped up, bringing himself forward towards the girl. He smirked a bit as he did, but for the most part, was serious. "Yeah, you're right, we're shinobi. That means a lot, and not just to our village, but to ourselves. It's our job to protect it, our friends and our families," He began, never breaking eye contact from the girl, "But if we don't relax every once in a while, and we're serious all the time, then we'll never unwind. We'll never feel free of our convictions and we will hold on to old feelings forever. Trust me, I would know." He though back to when his mother died, and all he did was swear revenge. Hell, he still wanted revenge. He wanted to wring the next of the bastard that killed her. But that wasn't healthy to focus on. Instead, he chose to keep himself positive, focusing only on the good.

"We've all lost someone special to us, at one point or another. Hell, I lost the only family member that decided to stick around. I don't have many friends to begin with, and I'm sure my enemies outnumber them. But, the difference between my enemies and me? I'm confident that I can get the job done." It wasn't cockiness that pushed Seigi forward, but the fact that he had spent countless hours training alone. That while others were hanging out with their friends, he was studying Kenjutsu techniques. He was a fighter, a warrior, a defender of the hidden leaf.

"So yeah, it's good to be serious, but if you don't let yourself relax, if you let your fear and your worry constrict your life, then you're not really living at all." He spoke, finishing his small rant.

Ryoko Yanagi

There was a word for the emotion Ryoko felt at the moment but her vocabulary always failed her at the most important times. The most accurate word was ‘shame’, she felt very ashamed being spoken to in such a way by someone who was obviously younger than her. While Hitomi apparently didn’t believe in the competitive nature of life, which she found odd, Ryoko really couldn’t grasp what she was saying. ‘Is she saying I can’t protect my family? Or that there are people who don’t protect their families?’

Regardless of what was really being said Ryoko heard one message clearly, ‘She thinks I’m childish.’, she had to fight off the urge to laugh, no wonder Hitomi sounded so familiar. Ryoko wasn’t a good speaker in reality and tried to avoid talking too much.

She sighed softly and was about to stumble through a reply when Seigi spoke, she blinked at the boy, but listened, slightly grateful that she didn’t have to speak after all. Plus, Seigi made a good point not that Ryoko thought the girl would listen. There was still that bit of shame though, as the boy spoke Ryoko realized that she couldn’t relate to his situation at all. How was she supposed to work with someone she had nothing in common with? She looked down at Kohaku, the poor child was patting at Seigi’s leg in an attempt to continue their game. This bothered Ryoko a bit, ‘He’s too friendly.’ she thought jealously.

She stood there a moment looking at Seigi. She listened to him speak, first time hearing him speak as well. It was surprising on what he spoke of however she nodded her head at him. She did feel some guilt on calling him out for being slow however she felt her idea still stuck. One rant wasn't going to change that. Let alone a very persuasive rant.

She sighed a moment scratching her head. "That's terrible to hear but I still stand by my notion...I'm not holding onto the past so much as defending for the future. What happened was my own fault, so I'm to make sure I don't make a fault that has my family in a bind." She looked to Ryoko who seemed puzzled on what she had said. She didn't mean for her words to be twisted the wrong way but while having a brother of her own she knows how worrying it is to look out for his safety. "Look all I'm saying isn't to work until you drown in sweat, merely that we need to do all we can and more if we are to be able to protect those we care for. If you can find the fun in it than fine...just don't get careless."

She then turned around and started to walk away waving. "Well I've spent enough time chatting, I've gotta go find my Sensei and Teammate to pair up for a mission soon so see you guys." She carried on to walk away before using her Body Flicker technique to leave the area entirely. She wanted to be sure she wasn't followed first before going anywhere. Especially with that blue haired spy attacking her like that.

As the Kunoichi body flickered away from the group, Seigi sighed, then bringing his attention back to Ryoko and her brother, smiling at the toddler. He really did love kids, and wished that he had a little brother of his own, but, he was cursed to live as a single child, and there was no changing that. He crouched back down, making a funny face towards Kohaku, before then looking back at Ryoko, grinning. "Sorry for kind of running off back there. It was my first instinct to see what was going on..." He spoke, his voice soft and friendly. "She told me I was being too slow, but the thing was, I wasn't wanting to get there immediately. As I approached, I was assessing the situation, careful for traps, and I'd rather talk the kid out of what he was doing, rather than put my sword through his chest." Seigi didn't like killing. He understood that as a shinobi, he would have to someday, but for every chance he got, he wanted to work his way around it. You never know when that person may just become an ally.

He sat on his butt, just as he had before, and made another funny face towards Kohaku, hoping the child would giggle or laugh. He felt Ryoko's uneasiness, and thought that maybe, just maybe, if he got her little brother to trust him, she might open up to him more. He wasn't a big fan of awkwardness (although he could be quite awkward himself) and wanted to try and dispel any negative emotions before they actually called themself a team. He was a team player, and could get along with just about anybody, but the real question was, could they get along with him?

Ryoko Yanagi

Listened as Hitomi spoke her piece and gave her a quick nod before she left. The girl was a bit hard for Ryoko to understand but she didn't think poorly of her, just thought she was odd. Once Hitomi was gone Seigi went back to playing with Kohaku, both boys seemed to enjoy themselves if Kohaku’s bubbly laughter was anything to go by. She watched the two thoughtfully only to be surprised when Seigi smiled up at her, she raised a questioning brow once he began apologizing.

Ryoko waited through his explanation, “I honestly think you should have held off on the approach.” she stated, “Think about it, if that person was more dangerous than you could have been causing more harm than good. Not like you could really sneak up on them here. By the time you got there she would have been dead. And I really would have left, so that means no back up for a while.”

Ryoko tapped the side of her head as the boy sat down, “That’s just how I saw it though.” she spoke over Kohaku’s squeals. Her opinion of Seigi wasn’t a negative one or an extremely positive one, she’d really just met the boy. He existed and she was going to start seeing a lot more of him. But, he was easy to be around and seemed to like playing with Kohaku so that was a plus. She hummed softly and looked back towards the trees where the other person disappeared.

"Maybe. But I'm not the one to sit and do nothing." He spoke, not meaning to sound cold, but understanding if he did. He sighed, then rose to his feet, looking off towards the tree.

"But nonetheless, I think that kid was more after that girl than he was us. It's safe to assume he's gone." He brought his eyes back down to the duo before him, grinning. "I think I'm gonna go. I've got a few errands to run. I look forward to working with you, Ryoko." He then reached down and ruffled Kohaku's hair. "And it was nice meeting you, Kohaku! Take care of your sister, alright?" And with a small wave, Seigi began to walk away from them, back towards the trees and the main village, throwing his hands into his pockets.
