Konoha Genin
Konoha Genin

The hospital wasn't exactly foreign territory for Himitsu.  He had plenty of relatives working here both full and part time.  The smell of disinfectant didn't so much as make the young genin flinch anymore.  Normally he enjoyed his visits to the hospital.  Unlike most people, it wasn't associated with illness or hurt.  To him the sterile white floors and walls represented learning and time with family actually paying positive attention to him.  Today was a bit different though.  He walked in in a pair of clean white pants and a matching shirt, with his hair pulled back into one large braid.

One of the older girls had been called on a B-rank mission with her squad, and had already promised to help clean the hospital today.  She'd offered it to Himitsu, who honestly needed the money right now.  He couldn't go on very many missions of his own that weren't small D-rank until he trained with a squad, and a C-rank was a good way to earn extra cash.  If he thought it was far too easy for it's ranking, he certainly wasn't going to tell the person paying him.

His first stop was the nurses station to receive his list of chores for the day.  The lady who gave it to him was a round older woman who spoke to him in an endearing tone.  She handed him the list and gave him a pat on the head.  He'd made sure to smile, be polite, and thank her for her help.  He made his way to the first item of business pretty easy, cleaning up the floors of one of the recently unoccupied rooms.  It didn't take him long to notice this patient had apparently suffered from a very weak stomach, and that it meant a bad start to Himitsu's day.  With a sigh the dark haired boy lifted his sponge and pail into the room and got to work.

To say it was a long day would have been an overstatement.  Himitsu had scrubbed several rooms and restrooms until they were spotless. All while knowing they would go from their obsessively clean current state to just as bad if not worse within the next few days.  Possibly by the next day actually.  His arms were only slightly sore, he was used to working his body, and manual labor wasn't too much of a hassle for him.  Unfortunately, his luck ended there.  He'd ended up scrubbing off substances he didn't care to name, cleaning up spills of equally atrocious ingredients, and by the end of the day was more than happy he hadn't worn any of his precious robes.

He realized he'd have to get used to the mess, his goal was to become head medic after all.  That mean scrubbing bed pans and cleaning up catheter spills as much as performing life changing surgeries.  It didn't bother him to the point he wasn't eager to come back another day of course.  As much as the mess had bothered him, things like the nice nurse calling him a 'sweet boy' and giving him a kiss on the cheek as she thanked him for his work, and the woman whose vomit he'd cleaned up thanking him when he told her he didn't have to apologize, those things made the mess seem less important.  He could definitely see himself doing this again.

For now, he walked out of the hospital door with a smile on his face.  His clothes were dirty and his hair was disheveled in it's tie, nearly falling out.  He was probably going to have to scrub his skin raw to get the all of the feeling he was covered in filth out of his system tonight.  None of that mattered though, because he got to help in his own small way.  He got to play a minor role in a grand scheme designed to save lives and ease pain.  That made him consider that he might have done this for free if asked, but since he'd already been promised a good 200 Ryo, he'd be more than happy to accept it.
