It was hot way too hot to be doing anything other than lazing about but this lean figure seemed to be doing quite the opposite as he secluded himself from the others of his village to train himself, time was a valuable thing and luckily he had some right now. First was the preparation needed to train this low level earth ninjutsu, at D rank this earth jutsu shouldn't be too hard to figure out so he wasn't overly worried as he brought three logs over to the clearing he pressed them into the dirt spaced apart about twenty feet a piece then stepped back. The basic principle of the idea was simple enough Ryuu thought to himself as he walked away from the logs that he had placed on the ground, go underground spring up rip the object or person into the ground fairly simple right?. Thing was he had never really tried this particular technique so he was a bit worried that it might be trickier than it seemed, but hey that's what training was for he thought to himself as he prepared.

And like that Ryuu vanished into thin air! well into thin ground actually since he was underground right at the moment traveling towards the logs that he had set down, the mission to reach up and grab each one before ripping into the ground. First attempt his hand sprang forth from the ground like a zombie's! only to grab at the air futilely as he missed his target by about a foot and some inches unfortunately, well then time to reset he thought as he popped up out of the ground creating a hole. Once more he disappeared into the ground and his hand sprang forth like the undead grabbing at the base of the log pulling it downwards, the log was buried instantly and Ryuu felt a sense of accomplishment from getting it right. Now onto the others to make sure he got it down right each time sinking the logs into the ground even bringing them out of the ground to do it again, he had the idea down and now he was tired.

He was going to have to rest up before doing anymore training which was unfortunate as there were other techniques that he wanted to try out today, he shrugged as he felt the seat rolling down his darkened flesh. He sighed lightly before turning away to go back to the village at a slow pace.

Night had set and Ryuu had returned to his training grounds in order to improve even further, he was less likely to be disturbed by anyone in the middle of the night, this time it wasn't training a technique but his chakra pools because he realized that he had been neglecting them thoroughly which made him only average. Ryuu's hands came up forming the symbols Ram → Snake → Tiger, poof beside him appeared two copies of himself that were nothing more than an illusion created to distract his enemies. The biggest weakness of these clones was the fact that they did not cast a shadow, a weakness remedied when you are fighting at night and the fact that they did not interact with their surroundings like a real person would. Rather than charging forward with them he had to coordinate them to move randomly with him jumping from the ground to the trees moving as quickly as possible often crossing paths as a way to confuse the imaginary enemy before him.

Next up while maintaining clones Ryuu jumped into the air his clones crossing behind him as they followed, Ryuu landed on the branch which barely supported his weight, he didn't stay long as he snapped off a branch and jumped towards the next tree. He hit the trunk sideways yet he did not fall from it, instead he stuck to the side of the tree like spider man in his prime, the stick in his hand tossed into the air so he could form Dog → Boar → Ram and transform the branch with a puff of smoke. His clones landing on the trees beside him unable to do the same as they could not break of branches of their own, the branch gone now replaced with a kunai though this was also a simple illusion that much anyone would be able to tell if they saw him do it. It was now that Ryuu began to feel himself slipping, transformation was one of the most difficult if not the most difficult of the E ranks to maintain especially when he was also using his chakra to keep himself on the tree.

Rather than staying and falling to the ground he jumped from the tree throwing the fake kunai straight into the air using his concentration to maintain the illusion of the kunai before watching as it sailed high up into the air and began to fall back down right towards him. Tiger → Boar → Ox → Dog → Snake, his hands moved quickly and as the fake kunai landed on what appeared to be his head he poofed into a cloud of smoke as he replaced his with one of the logs he had been using earlier. Simple yet effective in so many ways he thought to himself as he jumped towards the trees once more, his clones following eagerly as he jumped from tree to tree finding taller and taller ones to make his way up. Ram hand seal forming and his clones would disappear as Ryuu suddenly seemed to disappear into thin air, using the body flicker technique, clone technique, and tree walking technique all at once was a little hard to do so he didn't focus on the clones anymore.

He had spotted a small cliff off a ways so he could also use that for his training, in reality Ryuu hadn't disappeared at all he had just used chakra to vitalize his body temporarily to increase his speed for a short time making him appear to disappear into thin air. He landed on the side of another tree his bare feet barely making a sound even as he pushed off the tree to land on the ground and run towards the cliff that he could use, he wasn't sure how. He wasn't sure how much this training would actually do but he had to improve himself, he had been overlooked too many times because of his lack of skills, he had to get better to make it so he and the engine could surpass the man that his father had been when he was alive. The thought made him clench his fists tightly before he stopped in front of the cliff which was easily a seventy five meter climb, he looked up it before making his way to the base.

He slapped his right arm which was his good arm behind his back, he wanted to train his left because it was his weaker arm, he jumped upwards grabbing at the rocky side slamming his fingers into one of the many small crevice digging them in. He pulled upwards dragging his lean athletic form up the cliff side, he planted his feet in and jumped upwards grasping at an out cropping with a solid grip, bit by bit he would make his way up the cliff side until his body was covered in sweat and he could feel his arm aching. He was a little over halfway which did disappoint him a little seeing as he had planned on going all the way to the top with one arm but it didn't seem like that was possible for him quite yet. He switched the arms now and began his trail towards the top, it was easier than using just his left arm but he wouldn't call this easy by any means, by the time he reached the top even his right arm was just a bit achy.

He laid on the cool stone from the top, this wasn't even a large mountain, he had heard tales of high ranking shinobi climbing mountains ten times this size with just one arm, he wanted to be able to do something like that one day. For now he just had to keep pressing forward training with everything he had he thought as he looked at the moon, not much like coming from the little sliver that was left there, now though he needed to go rest so he could train again. He made his way down the cliff side using both hands this time as he didn't want to try and be a macho guy only to fall down and possibly hurt himself in the process because let's be honest that would just be embarrassing, he left feeling that he hadn't done enough but was satisfied for the time being.

Another day, another two techniques to add to his arsenal Ryuu thought to himself, the first technique shouldn't be all that hard to figure out but he figured he needed to be careful thinking that, after all if you messed up even a little the shadow shuriken technique becomes useless. A pretty standard technique to know and it could be quite useful with his next technique but no need to count his chickens before they hatched he thought to himself as he pulled out the two large shurikens. They were best known as fuma shurikens though some preferred windmill shurikens, Ryuu didn't think windmill sounded as good as fuma shurikens but to each their own he thought with a little shrug of his shoulders. The key was to throw both of them at nearly the same time so the second was hidden with the shadow of the first, Ryuu was pretty handy with weapons so he figured a couple of tries and he'd have it down.

The first toss was too slow the second trailed behind clearly visible to anyone who might have been looking, when push came to shove he also wasn't going to be throwing them both openly like that but for he needed to get the timing down and this was the fastest way to do so. The second throw was more on point that the first but the trailing fuma shuriken wasn't right he could still see it, maybe he was just thinking too much about it but he went for a third throw just to make sure. The third throw was as perfect as you could get it, the spinning blades were in sync to the point where even Ryuu who knew there were two of them lost track of them at some points, that one had been pretty simple but the next one was going to be a little more difficult for sure.

This one was going to require finesse and dexterity which he had but that didn't mean it was going to be a walk in the park, he folded up the fuma shurikens for now and pulled out two normal looking shurikens. He threw them towards an imaginary opponent and they missed or so it would seem, with movement from his fingers Ryuu pulled back the ninja wire that he had attached to the shurikens. The objective was of course to strike the opponent from behind after the shurikens had missed, the problem was that Ryuu pulled too hard on one string bringing one of the shurikens all the way back to him. He moved his head to the side as it flashed by, the blades barely missing his cheek which gave him a new found respect for the little projectile, he reset and mentally warned himself not to pull too hard on the wires.

He found pulling and moving them about was a bit more difficult than he originally thought, one wrong move with a finger and the shuriken would lose it's balance or go a direction that it wasn't meant to. He had heard expert bukijutsu users could control these things easily with just a single movement of their fingertips but Ryuu didn't have that precise of control over them unfortunately. He didn't stop though as he wanted this technique in his arsenal even if others said that it wasn't that great he wanted it, he wouldn't give up because of a failure or two no that was no an option. It took a little longer than intended but he got the job done making the shurikens go exactly where he wanted them to when he wanted them to, he wasted more enegy than he wanted to which meant he was going to have to take another rest in the hospital unfortunately he thought in a dreary way as he packed up and left.

Ryuu was back again for some training but there was a big difference this time with Ryuu, the calm logical type that's what Ryuu normally was but not today he was angry, the anger was directed at one person and that was himself. "WEAK!" he screamed out to no one as he slammed his fist into the side of the cliff he had been training on the other day, the dense rock cracking and giving in as his fists slammed into it repeatedly, while Ryuu was damaging the rock he was also damaging his fists at the same time. His skin scraped off and cut open until blood flowed down his fingers, it happened yesterday he had been challenged and defeated by a chunin who was four years younger than him. One single attack had shown the vast difference between the two of them and Ryuu was furious at his own inadequacies rather than being angry at Hiryo, if he had been better then it wouldn't have happened like that.

"PATHETIC!" he roared out to the nature around him as he spun and threw a kunai at the tree, the unforgiving metal bit deep into the bark of the tree sticking into it. Ryuu pulled back harshly on the string that he had at wire he had attached to the kunai ripping it from the tree, it seemed to be heading right for his head but he reached up and caught it by the handle like it was nothing. He had gotten the wire handling down but today was using something a bit different, he spread his chakra around him lifting the kunai and other kunai from his pants into the air without touching them. They just floated around his body seven in total looking very sharp and as if they were alive they turned towards the direction of Ryuu's hand, he imagined that could be a bit creepy if he were just to follow the movements of his enemy with the kunai.

With a simple movement forward with his hand the kunai shot towards the tree he had buried a kunai in earlier but only four out of the seven had hit. Seemed that he hadn't focused his chakra enough so he went and picked them all up to try again, he needed to make sure he kept his concentration up on his target or else some of the kunai would stray. It took a couple more tries for him to get every single one in the tree but once he had it down it became fairly easy to do, the key was just keeping his eyes on the target because it made things easier to do. Focusing on nothing but his training made thing much easier, shutting out the world around him instead of thinking of everything he had gone through, there was only his training and him nothing else mattered now. He had to calm down a bit from earlier because his anger had been making it harder to control himself but once he got it under control Ryuu was back to himself and that was most definitely a good thing he thought as he left.

A little less angry at himself today though the fire of self frustration and rage was still simmering in the recesses of his mind, today was going to be a little harder than the other days seeing as he had to control the chakra without setting off the technique. The technique involved setting down an array of explosive tags often ranging from four to six and using their chakra to link them all together trapping whatever was trapped within the middle of them, the problem was Ryuu didn't have the cash to be dropping that many explosive tags even if it was just once. So it was going to be all about linking them together without activating them so he didn't waste his resources, he placed four tags on four trees right against the trunks in the middle so they could hit high and low doing the maximum amount of damage possible to the imaginary opponent trapped within.

He stepped back quite a bit just in case he caused any of them to explode accidentally he didn't want to be anywhere near them as that would not feel good at all. His hands moved as fast as they could forming the seals needed to activate the technique linking the tags together one by one except for the one on the far left as it seemed he had put too much chakra into the others thus that one didn't get the chakra it needed to be activated. He had to move the chakra around like a stream creating a circle of sorts out of the chakra not necessarily unless he wanted to show off but it wasn't as easy all that because if he did it wrong one didn't get the chakra that it needed to activate and if that happened it was possible the opponent could survive by detecting the lack of chakra within the tag.

Okay so he just had to try again and again he got it down he thought to himself as his hands moved quickly once more forming  Monkey → Horse → Dog → Ram hand seals. His mind concentrating so fully on the task in front of him that he didn't realize there were animals coming around him staring curiously as his standing form. They seemed to get bored with him rather quickly as he focused on the technique at hand not wanting to break the flow of chakra and screw up again, he spread the chakra throughout the tags one by one giving each the same amount of chakra needed in order to activate. He caught himself as he moved to make one hand seal that would have activated all four together, what a waste that would have been he thought as he released the flow of chakra finally.

He made his way over to the trees peeling the explosive tags away from the thick trunks one by one putting them into his back pouch before taking his time to look around, he liked this area for training and he would definitely continue using it for his self improvement.

Back again to the training grind, Ryuu drew in a deep breath of fresh air before getting ready, he had calmed down substantially compared to the other two days that he had been here which would help him focus more on his training. Today was different because he wasn't training one of his specialties, as a bukijutsu and taijutsu expert he was somewhat limited to physical attacks so using ninjutsu he could widen his ability to attack the enemy. Ryuu wasn't the type to just rush into danger head first, he could do so if it was necessary but that was an extremely dangerous thing to do especially against a cunning opponent. This move was something he had come up with on his own after trying to think of something that he could do that others would not expect, the thought came to his mind when he saw a spider coming out from underneath an earthen trap door to catch a cricket.

The idea he had in mind was different but similar in some ways he thought as he made the snake hand seal and then placed his hand against the ground. His chakra spreading through the earth causing it to split and shift from itself until a hole formed within the ground, he didn't control his chakra enough though as the shell of earth and rocks that was meant to hide the hole from view crumbled inwards revealing it completely. That was no good as the jutsu lost a lot of it's effectiveness if the opponent could see where the hole was after all, he'd just have to keep going until he managed to get it to work right. Snake hand seal and then hands against the ground working his chakra through a different area shifting the earth away until a hole formed nice, the shell holding above it for a few seconds but then crumbling into the hole unfortunately.

One last time as he refined his chakra control using this jutsu, the ground splitting apart easily and Ryuu's shell held itself in place. He waited a few seconds and longer to see if the shell was going to crumble as it had the previous two times but it held just fine, he reached to the ground and grabbed up a rock a little larger than his head. He threw it up into the air and watched as it hurtled down into the shell and through it showing off the hole now, he was happy to see that it worked and figured he would remember the technique easy enough at this point so he left.
