The training grounds of Konohagakure... Such a peaceful place to be, Yugo thought. Despite the sound of people kicking trees or the occasional gout of fire in the distance, this seemed to be a pretty peaceful place with the sunshine and the wind gently blowing leaves off the tree branches. Picking his spot underneath of a tree, Yugo sat cross legged and flipped his cloak out to avoid sitting on it and tightening it around his neck and shoulders. Taking a book out from under his arm, Yugo flipped to a page about midway through it that was titled "Chakra Natures and How to Discern Them: A Guide to Discovering Your Own Latent Abilities". Feeling pleasure with the feeling of a book and paper between his fingers, Yugo began to read quietly to himself under the shade of the tree and by the light of the noon sun.
First, to discern your own chakra type without the assistance of another more experienced shinobi near by, you need chakra paper. What this paper does is tell you what chakra nature you currently possess naturally, though this isn't a finite limit on what you can do. Many shinobi possess more than one nature, either by working hard to achieve that quality, being born naturally with it, or by a more taboo way in the form of an implantation of an organ or D.N.A into their bodily code. Simply touching the paper with a small amount of chakra will cause a reaction to occur that tells you what your elemental affinity is and those reactions are as follows: If the paper burns then your nature is Katon, if it becomes damp then Suiton is your element, if it rips in half then you are among the rare few who have Fuuton as their natural element, if the paper wrinkles then you are blessed with the power of Raiton, and if the paper crumbles away into dust then you have the affinity of Doton. Again, you must only send a very small amount of chakra into the paper to be able to tell what your elemental affinity is. Another way to either see what your affinity is or to gain a basic grasp of the element is to try to summon some forth.
Typical results of this kind of ancient method are hard to determine, though I will list a few off for convenience. If you wish to discover if you have Katon as your element, then placing your hand in a funnel shape over your mouth and expelling chakra will inform you if it is whether fire is created or not. For Suiton, simply send out a wave of chakra to a pool of water and see if you can form a sphere with it. For Fuuton, gather chakra into your palm (or fingertips if your chakra control is poor) and expel it at a target. If it shreds or cuts, then you will know. For Raiton, gather chakra into your fingertips and snap your fingers. If a spark is created then Raiton is your element. As for Doton, see if you can summon a small pillar by forcing chakra into the earth through your hand. If you can, then you'll know. Keep in mind, some people are very unlucky in that they're born with no elements and must work twice as hard to simply learn one element in their lifetime, let alone two.
Yugo closed the book at that point and set it beside him, then he grabbed a small container that had chakra paper inside of it. Sighing, he took one out and held it in front of him. Using precision granted to him by his Ijutsu training, he sent a small burst of chakra into the paper and was surprised to see it crumple up almost immediately. Setting the paper aside, Yugo put his middle finger and thumb together in order to snap. After sending a small amount of chakra into his fingertips, Yugo would snap and watch as a quick burst of Raiton sparked off his fingertips. With a faint smile, Yugo stood knowing more today than he had known the day before in the form of his elemental affinity.
