Silence. That was his favorite sound. The absolute lack of noise. A vaccuum of sound. It was like when there was no noise, his stresses and concerns were drawn out of his body, like a splinter out of a finger being soaked in warm water. So he let himself soak in the silence. His own breathing matched it nicely, noiseless air streaming in and out of his nose. The meditation center had become one of his go-to places to clear his mind and settle his soul. But in the back of his mind he knew he had to go. He had some more training to do. But for this instant, he just held for a few more moments of peace.
Finally he stood up though. He was wearing his normal attire for posing as Lee, the blind man. It was his prefered disguise. Lee was known around the village, if only by sight. People were familiar with him as being harmless. He could move around without any issue, and no one paid him any mind. After a short walk he arrived at a house. A few knocks announced him to the occupants and he was allowed entry. Walking past his ANBU ninja we went to his own office. Once he was there, he locked the door and sat down in a cross legged position. He needed to train. He had neglected working on gaining any proficiency with any elemental jutsu for his whole life. Now that things were quieter in the village he had time to pursue research into it, to help him grow stronger. To ensure he wasn't a burden to his village. His inability to easily cast any jutsu of elemental nature had fortunately never been something that he had been a major issue before, but it was better to be safe than sorry. And better sorry than dead.
He'd done the normal chakra paper test. His primary affinity was lightning. A bit peculiar for someone who was technically of Hyuuga stock, but it wasn't really a major problem. After all, Urek really didn't even look like a Hyuuga anyways. He still hadn't taken off his headband. He was so familiar with the layout of the city, and of this house, and of his office that he'd come here without sight. But now he did take off the eye covering and looked at his hands. Letting chakra flow freely into his hands, he looked at them. There was no visible change of his body, but he could feel the power being channeled through him. A deep and cleansing breath in and out.
Silence.
And then a small crackling. A popping and snapping noise. He continued to focus his chakra into his hand, letting the energies in his body mix and churn, rubbing against itself, spinning and sputtering through his circulatory system until it finally roared out from his fingers, lighting the air with plasma. Across his hand danced dozens of little sparks. It really wasn't enough to do more than surprise someone with a bit of pain, and useless in real combat. But at least it was a step in the right direction. He had proven to himself he could handle Lightning Release. Now it was time to find another element to add to his arsenal.
Lightning release. Known for its astounding piercing power, it was the spear of elements. Lightning enhanced punches could penetrate incredibly strong defenses. It wasn't exactly designed for defense, but it didn't matter how strong someone else's attacks were if you could destroy them first. It also gave a number of interesting options to increase his own speed and reactions. The human body was run on electricity, and when you supplied more of it to the right areas... Well, the possiblities were almost limitless.
He'd thought long and hard on what element would best benefit him alongside lightning. Where he should put focus to guarantee maximum efficiency in his job. Water could be very helpful for his medical jutsu, creating a powerful medium to enhance his healing abilities. It also provided a unique combination of offensive and defensive options that could fit a number of styles. But it seemed like the jack of all trades, master of none. It wasn't particularly incredible in any one area, it was more of a filler element to even out all the other pits and holes, rather than create another spike of efficiency.
Earth had tempted his mind for a moment, but his style tended to put the most focus on offensive abilities. Earth's defensive properties had potential, as well as presenting intriguing stealth opportunities. He could easily tunnel underground and surprise people with the right jutsu. But it really did focus most strongly on defense and utility, and to Urek that just wasn't necessary. Armor was nice, but a stronger weapon was almost always nicer.
That left two remainin options. Fire being the first and for a long time, Urek thought he had settled on training to be his secondary element of choice. It had potential medical applications which was good, as well as its incredible offensive capablities. It'd let him fight from a distance, and had astounding destructive options when used correctly. He'd been sold on it at first, but as he thought more into it, he found that while it did open his combat options considerably, he was finding he had more interest in further increasing his close combat skills.
Which had led him to his final decision. It really was almost a spur of the moment choice that he only settled on right then. Wind release. It was perfect for his close in combat style, deflecting projectiles and forcing his foes to move in near so that he could return his attacks. The slicing power of wind was on par with the piercing power of lightning as well. It was almost too good to put off.
With that in mind, he brought his second hand up. He hadn't moved from his seated position. His training as a Medical nin had provided him with impressive chakra control, and so visualizing and then channelling his chakra was something he was quite used to. However, wind wasn't his primary element. It took an extra push, a stronger "oomph" to get it go move. Unlike the tight and controlled reaction from his lightning release, his wind release sent a gust of wind through the room, sending papers in the air and causing a rustling noise. He focused harder, bringing it into a more controlled format. That wasn't good enough though.
He stood up. Glancing at the clock, he saw he'd been in here for two hours. Apparently internalizing your chakra was made time fly. Sighing, he went to his chair, picking up his blindfold and placing it across his eyes again. He let the lack of light enfold him, finding comfort in it. People let what they say destroy their peace. Now that he was older, he realized that being blind was one of the greatest gifts he had ever been given. To think he'd turned his back on it when he was twelve. People started wars over how someone looked different, or because they didn't do something the same way. It was all stupid and pointless in the end. Leading only to unnecessary deaths.
Still with his eyes covered and closed, he raised his hand. He had reminded himself of why he must be stronger. Letting his chakra channel into his hand, he still didn't look, instead waiting to release it. Letting it build up. It was building. Stronger and strong. Finally he released it.
Silence.
Standing up in frustration, his eye cover fell off and he punched his desk. His already impressive strength though wouldn't have put the hole through it. Not in the way it happened. Surprised, he looked at his hand. Around it was a slight shimmer of fast moving air. He'd succeeded without realizing it. A smile slid across his face, as he sat back down. Perfect.
