Looks Description: Otaki is a youthful man in his mid-twenties with a clear complexion and short reddish, sandy hair. He always has a friendly air about him. They way he walks is fluid and graceful. This is mirrored in battle when he dawns his armor and mask. Though the suit is heavy, he still manages to find grace and timing in his movements, almost like a dance.
Personality Description: Otaki’s personality is a hard thing to comprehend. When he was a child his imagination soared high. He was a dreamer who always spoke of world peace and everyone being one culture instead of many different ones. This changed as he grew. Otaki became accustomed to violence and death and soon realized that peace among Shinobi was impossible and the only thing he could to keep people safe was by killing.
After all, killing was all a Shinobi was good for. They were tools to be used by their respective nation for any reason the kage saw fit. This message was drilled into Otaki’s brain for over twenty years and after a while the hopeful dreams of his childhood faded away into oblivion. Otaki still held on to many of the things he once held dear in his childhood. He kept a collection of toys and games, but he knew he would never be that same young genin ever again.
Otaki also used to quite impulsive, challenging people he barely even knew to fights. His win/loss ratio was usually 50/50 but Otaki would always find a way to get even. He was like that. He didn’t hold a grudge but he also didn’t let matters go easily. After he left the Shinobi forces he changed even more drastically. Otaki bought a farm and settled down, refusing to talk about why he never used jutsu or chakra anymore.
He returned to Kumogakure two years ago and garnered a reputation for being a drunk and a pervert. One story tells of how he emptied an entire barrel of Sake in an hour, and then went on a spree through the girl’s bathing houses. The next morning he was caught sleeping in a tree that was covered in ladies’ undergarments.
He has begun to shape his act up since then. Otaki has become recognized once more his prowess at fuuinjutsu and armed combat. Whenever his wife and son come to visit he never drinks or acts up and acts like a great father for the child who is named Korin. He talks of his son with pride, as if the little guy is the greatest achievement Otaki has ever had. If Korin were to die it would destroy Otaki.
Otaki’s biggest fear is being sealed away in a scroll, ironically. He knows the hell of isolation, of being alone. He uses it on others when he seals them, and everyone time he thinks about what it’s like a in a scroll and how lonely it can be. It torments him at night in his dreams where he can’t run from the emptiness.
Likes:
- The taste of fine Sake. It calms his nerves and allows him to think more clearly. For this reason, he usually carries around a bottle of the stuff just to take the edge of every now and again.
- Fish. Whether it’s sushi, fish and chips, or even cooked over an open flame, there is no meal in the world that Otaki would take over some fresh caught fish. His favorite thing to do is soak the fish in Sake, fry it in sake, then season it with sake to taste. Of course he’ll also drink some sake while eating the meal.
- Women. While not a pervy person, Otaki enjoys the sight of a fine woman. He also enjoys the feel, sound, and taste of a fine woman… if ya know what I mean.
- Toys. Whether it be a simple Kendama or an awesome action figure, Otaki is a sucker for interesting toys. For a few years after giving up life as a professional Shinobi, Otaki made and sol toys for the children of Mizugakure. Then he decided to sell his shop and go Missing-Nin when he decided that he missed the life of a Shinobi and wanted to feel the action once more.
Dislikes:
- People who are intolerant of other cultures.
- The Dutch
- Steak
- Chicken
- Having to walk.
Catch Phrases: Usually something poetic about the situation. Sometimes he can disguise a wicked burn as a compliment, but usually he’s straight forward with how he speaks.
Nindo: “I might not die with honor. I might not die with dignity. But at least I will die knowing it was in service to my village.”
Element Affinity: Fire and Lighting
Sub-element: Water
History: Otaki was born and raised by a kumogakure farmer. (Then everything changed when the fire nation attacked. Nah, I'm just kidding.) Otaki was born into a family of farmers. Like his father, he dreamed of becoming a shinobi. When he was three he was first introduced into the ninjutsu arts when his father bought a scroll from a merchant in the hidden village close to their farm.
The scroll detailed water and earth techniques that the father and son used to further their farming by a hundred fold. Eventually the family had enough money that Otaki and his parents were able to sell the farm and move to the village where Otaki's father sent him to the ninja academy at the age of seven. After he was accepted to the academy something happened to Otaki's parents, but he was never told what. It took years for him to learn the truth which ended up scarring him for life.
During his formative years at the academy, Otaki was well liked by his classmates, at least those that believed he should be there. He never made enemies or stuck his neck out. He kept his head down low to avoid trouble. When he was nine he got into a fight with a taijutsu adept. The boy believed that Otaki was not deserving of being a ninja as he was not born to shinobi and instead came from a clan of farmers. Otaki challenged the boy to a fight and… lost. This marked Otaki as bull-headed and brash, a tag that would stick without through most of his youth.
Otaki trained himself well in the art of fuuinjutsu at a young age, creating multiple techniques that used his lightning release style. When the time came for the chuunin exams, Otaki placed top in his class, coming out the winner even though he was seen as an underdog for being an orphan.
It was at this point that Otaki's history differs from other shinobi. Instead of taking on the normal tradition of a three person team, Otaki decided he was strong enough to go on his missions by himself. Much to the surprise of the other ninja, Otaki survived all his missions, even an S-ranked one that included the assassination of quite a few high level diplomats from kiri to the land of fire.
It's not certaqin when he ranked up from chuunin to spec. jounin. Many wonder if was ever even considered a chunnin in the eyes of the other shinobi. For a lot of his time at these ranks he kept to himself. When he returned from missions he would hole up inside his house and read without much outside interaction.
He became renowned for his ability to capture targets alive instead of killing them, making him a good friend of puppeteers. Most of the people who knew him called him the Kaminari no fujin, or Sealing god of Thunder. At the young age of fourteen Otaki became a master of Fuuinjutsu, outshining even the Uzumaki’s.
His most famous feat came at the Battle of Juzunki when he sealed 500 enemy shinobi in one scroll using a technique that he never told anyone about and he has never showed to anyone outside of those in his unit. The shinobi were later released back to their respective villages in exchange for a trade agreement to be signed by all nations involved that would establish a safe connection between Kumo and the other villages.
After spending a few years as a chuunin, Otaki was promoted to spec jounin at the age of 21. Otaki began to take on confidential missions that some believed were targeted in the Land of Lightning itself, against government officials that the Raikage deemed a threat. He didnt spend long at his rank and was soon promoted to full jounin.
Otaki continued his career as a shinobi until at the age of 35 when he retired to go back to a simpler life. He bought a farm on the edge of the Land of Lightning where it meets Tanigakure. Many people speculated as to why Otaki left his life as a shinobi. A lot of them felt that it was due to a conflict with the feelings of the Raikage, while others who knew him believed that Otaki had simply gotten tired of the shinobi life and decided to go back to his youthful days of farming.
In truth Otaki fell in love. He met a woman in a tavern one evening who struck his fancy. Her name was Shara Kaguya. They got in a fight that night, but Otaki beat her. In return for proving himself the better fighter, Shara allowed Otaki into her bed. He soon found out she had become pregnant with his son.
Ibashi attempted to remain a shinobi, but soon found out the Raikage intended to send him on a suicide mission. It was to involve attacking Konohagakure in the dead of night and killing as many of their Uchiha as possible. Otaki was to dress in the uniform of a Kirigakure nin, thereby starting a war between Kiri and Konoha. Ibashi found out the Raikage wanted him dead, and that he actually intended for Otaki to die in the attack.
Otaki was crushed. He had devoted his life to serving the Land of Clouds, and now he was to be killed. Otaki accepted the mission, but when it came to attack Konoha, he sent another shinobi in his place. The shinobi was killed by the assassin on his way to Konoha. The body was burned and Otaki was declared, but in reality he had purchased his father's farm and moved his family into hiding there.
For ten years Otaki was never heard from. He lived a quiet life, teaching his so how to farm the land that his own father had also taught to farm with. Shara, his wife, had a a set of twins named June and Jane. His son Raiyoh was a grreat big brother. Eventually there came a time of hardship. After ten years of hiding from the Raikage, the farm stopped producing crops. It was that way for everyone else in the region as well. Word was sent to the government for assistance, but they Wind Daimyo and the Raikage refused to do anything, because they knew Otaki was there and that if they let the farms dry up, they could smoke him out.
Otaki became enraged about what was happening and traveled to Kumogakure in the dead of night. He made his way deep into the village and eventually found the Raikage alone in his chambers. A massive battle ensued which threatened to destroy the city. The raikage was a master of ninjutsu and fought viciously to stop Otaki. It was then that Otaki learned the reason the Raikage had tried to take his life. Otaki was threat to his power, and thus needed to be taken out.
This enraged Otaki further. He hadn't used fuuinjutsu because he hated the hell it placed it's victims in. That night Otaki broke the promise he had made to himself and Shara ten years before. He used his fuuinjutsu to seal the raikage away in his own sword which Otaki carries with him to this day.
After the mysterious disappearance of the Raikage, Otaki returned to the city. Those who had planned to have him killed were shocked to see the shinobi so brazenly walk through the streets, with his family in tow. With the Kage position vacant, Otaki was free to take the position they had tried keeping him from years before.
